TV memory (RAM) and streaming performance
If one TV is slow while others in the same home are fine, the cause is often the TV itself.
What memory does
RAM is the working memory a device uses while an app runs. Streaming apps hold a long list of channels, movies and series in that memory. If there is too little, the app slows, restarts or shows empty screens.
How much is enough
- 1 GB: too little for large lists. Expect slowness.
- 2 GB: the bare minimum.
- 4 to 5 GB: handles big lists comfortably.
Free storage matters too. A device with only about 1 GB of free storage can struggle even if the memory is acceptable.
How to check your device
On Android TV open Settings, then About, and look for RAM and storage. If the screen does not show RAM, search the model name and RAM online. Send us a photo of the About screen and we tell you what to expect.
What to do
- Remove apps and files you do not use.
- Restart the device before watching.
- Ask us for a lighter list. We can reduce the list size so it loads faster.
- Consider a small box or stick with more memory. Any brand works; we then set it up for you.
Does the server cause it?
Not when the same account is fast on another device. We always check the line from our side first.
FAQ
Will Wi-Fi fix a slow TV?
Not if the slowness comes from low memory. Test the same account on a phone to compare.
Which stick should I buy?
Choose one with at least 2 GB, and more is better. We do not need a particular brand.
