How to restart a Fire Stick or box and clear the cache

Sticks and boxes run for weeks without a break. A restart and a cache clear give them a fresh start.

Restart

Unplug the power for 30 seconds and plug it back in, or use the restart option in Settings. Wait until the home screen appears completely.

Clear the app cache on a Fire Stick

1. Open Settings, then Applications, then Manage Installed Applications.
2. Select the streaming app.
3. Choose Clear Cache.
4. Open the app again.

Clear Data is stronger: it resets the app and removes the saved playlists, so use it only if we ask you to, and then send us the new code.

On an Android TV box

1. Open Settings, then Apps, and select the streaming app.
2. Choose Storage, then Clear Cache.
3. Restart the app.

Free up storage

Remove apps you do not use. Low storage makes everything slower.

When to do it

• The app is slow or keeps closing.
• A change we made does not appear.
• The list shows old data.
